Description

Cordon Noir is a book about the slow work of preparation.

Borrowing its title and tone from classical cookery, the book treats change not as a set of instructions, but as a process: ingredients assembled, boundaries respected, heat applied carefully, and outcomes allowed to emerge in their own time.

Written by Penny Moon in collaboration with Manus AI, Cordon Noir began life as a simple storyboard — a kind of mise en place — developed over years of therapeutic practice. It has since been expanded into a reflective text that invites the reader into the kitchen rather than lecturing from the recipe card.

The book unfolds in short passages and symbolic reflections, encouraging readers to pause, taste, and return. There are no fixed methods, no promised results, and no pressure to “get it right.” If nothing seems to be happening, that may be part of the method.

Cordon Noir will appeal to:

  • Therapists, coaches, and reflective practitioners

  • Readers drawn to symbolism, archetype, and metaphor

  • Anyone navigating a period of change or uncertainty

  • Those who prefer slow reading to quick answers

This is not a book to be devoured. It is one to simmer with.

Best served slowly. No rushing. No substitutions.

Good insight to mindfulness and how distraction is not always a bad thing. Mistakes can happen as long as we are living in the moment. As a neurodivergence mental health clinician this book provides self awareness with an element of humour and reflexivity.
