When we published Happiness, we wondered what might happen if a book made by a young woman in 1953 was allowed to carry on growing. Veronica Owen filled her original book with the things that mattered to her: pictures, poems, quotations, memories, friendships and glimpses of a life that was only just beginning. More than seventy years later, we reproduced it and asked its readers a simple question:
What would you want someone in 2076 to discover about you?
We sent out cards with an invitation to write, draw, attach, remember – or simply make a mark – and then, if people wished, to pass the card on to somebody else.
And people have begun to answer.
Xenia’s contribution
One of the first responses came from Xenia, a friend of Veronica’s, who is 99.
She sent us these images:

We’d love this page to grow.
If you have received one of our Happiness cards, send us a photograph of whatever you have written, drawn, attached or created. It doesn’t need to be polished, profound or even particularly cheerful. Happiness, as Xenia reminds us, is hard to define.
And if you haven’t received a card, you can still join in. Just download this image, fill it in, send it to a friend and email us a copy.

The original Happiness was finished in 1953.
Perhaps you are the author of its next pages!
