In the depths of the global Covid-19 pandemic back in 2021, a single Zoom call between two artist educators in the UK and Kenya generated some huge shifts in opportunities for challenged yet creative young people in Nairoibi. That single exchange between myself and film maker, Bernard Nyanje, led to the founding of the Nowen Media Institute (NMI): and I’m now delighted to share that I’m now officially its Founder and first Patron.
NMI is an independent educational organisation based in Nairobi which aims to transform the creative lives of young people in Nairobi by:
* Establishing Exchange programmes for students from the Nowen Media Institute fraternity to organisations in the creative industries across the world
* Committing to have state of art facilities which enable young people to fulfil their creative dreams for recognition on a global stage
* Delivering inspiring arts and cultural programmes for Nairobi’s Mighty Creatives: drama and music Clubs for children of all ages.
Bermard and I now invite you to contribute your expertise, passion and support for the future growth of the Nowen Media Institute.
Together, our single voices will tell the important stories: from the world, to the world.
It’s a great organisation – please message me if you would like to learn more or get involved.
